Gigabyte has announced seven new P55A motherboards featuring USB 3.0, SATA Rev. 3.0 technologies. The motherboards promise a high speed of data transfer due to the presence of fast 333 onboard acceleration methods.
The Gigabyte P55A motherboards can support the latest Windows 7. It is also made fast enough because of the Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. All of the seven modules are associated with DDR3 memory modules and come with USB 3.0 specifications. The modules can transfer data at a phenomenal speed of 5GB/sec. The seven modules include GA-P55A-UD6, GA-P55A-UD5, GA-P55A-UD4P, GA-P55A-UD3P, GA-P55A-UD3R, GA-P55A-UD3. The Gigabyte P55A-Series Motherboards support Serial-ATA revision 3.0 version boosting their transfer speeds by up to four times than the SATA 2.0. Seagate’s Barracuda XT may be the first hard disk to integrate SATA rev 3.0 connectivity interface.

The news that the Congress Party led coalition was racing to victory came within hours after vote counting began Saturday, surprising a country which had been bracing for a fractured verdict. Even before the final results were in, a smiling Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, thanked people for a "massive mandate." "It will be our effort to rise to the expectations of our people, to give them a government which is a caring government, which represents the best instincts of Indian polity, which works for sustained and equitable development, which protects the secular values," he said. The Congress Party will head a coalition government. The alliance it heads is slightly short of a clear majority in the 543-seat parliament, but it can easily pick up support from small parties and independent lawmakers to bridge the gap. This has set at rest fears that the country will have a weak, unstable coalition, dependent on a host of unreliable partners. In fact the Congress Party has emerged hugely strengthened, winning more seats than the most optimistic projections. It has picked up about 190 seats on its own - it's best performance in nearly two decades. The Congress Party dominated Indian politics since the country's independence, but saw is share of votes slip in recent elections. The president of the Congress Party, Sonia Gandhi, who is credited with reviving the party's fortunes, said people have made "the right choice." "People have appreciated the fact that we have worked hard, that we do think of them, that we work for them with sincerity and dedication," she said. Congress party supporters celebrated through the country, setting off firecrackers and dancing in the streets. The Congress Party attributed its showing in the polls to the work it has done for the rural poor, who make up the bulk of India's voters. Good news for the Congress Party was bad news for its main rival, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, which saw its share of seats slip compared to 2004. Few had expected the BJP to win, but the party had hoped to put up a good fight. "It is a disappointment, but like all good matches, one loses, one wins, we have lost, but with the hope we will come back again strongly," said Siddharth Nath, spokesman for the party.
The elections also dealt a blow to leftist, regional parties and caste-based parties, which fared poorly, ending their hopes of playing a dominant role at the national level. India's new parliament must be seated by June 2.

The yen fell to two-week lows against the dollar and the euro on Friday, while the dollar also fell versus both the euro and perceived higher-risk currencies as investors hope the worst may be over for the global economy. Risk appetite has been boosted by recent global economic data and a note of optimism from the U.S. Federal Reserve earlier this week. Currencies regarded as higher-risk such as the Australian dollar benefited strongly, and a rise in U.S. stock futures also helped sentiment with the S&P 500 futures SPc1 up 0.3 percent. Trading was thin and relatively volatile, however, with European markets closed due to the May Day holiday. "It's very quiet, with movements largely flow-driven, but there's still a slight bid to risk," RBC Capital Markets currency strategist Christian Lawrence said. "Currencies continue to be driven by equities and risk appetite and the riskier, commodity-based currencies have outperformed against the perceived safe-haven yen and dollar," he said. At 1011 GMT, the euro rose 1.2 percent against the yen to 131.86 yen, just shy of an earlier two-week high around 132.00 yen , while the dollar gained 0.8 percent to 99.34 yen , having hit a two-week high around 99.58 yen. The euro rose 0.4 percent against the dollar to $1.3272 , which helped to push the dollar's trade-weighted index down 0.3 percent to 84.554 .DXY.

Realistic filmmaker Manish Gupta, known for his hard-hitting films ‘Matrabhoomi’ and ‘The Stoneman Murders’, has gone a bit too far in depicting realism in his next film Hostel . As the title suggests, the film revolves around a bunch of students living in a hostel. There is a scene in the film where the characters played by Vatsal Seth and Tulip Joshi are ragged by their seniors. In this scene, one senior tells Vatsal to squeeze Tulip’s breasts. According to a tabloid, the senior’s dialogue goes something like this : “Iski chhati dabaa. Private mein to dabata hai. Ab bhi dabaa. Nahin toh hum dabayenge.” The Censor Board was so shocked by the dialogue that they refused to give even an ‘A’ certificate to the film. The director was straightaway told that such kind of dialogue would not be allowed in films. Gauzing the gravity of the board’s reaction, Manish Gupta has now decided to change the scene. Now, the seniors will force Vatsal to kiss Tulip. Despite the change, Manish maintains that such kind of vulgar ragging does take place in colleges.

16 people killed in school shooting in Germany

A teenager in black combat gear went on a bloody rampage at his former school in Germany on Wednesday, slaying at least 15 people before dying in a shootout with police, officials said. Amarjeet Singh Manhas, Chairman of Mumbai Housing and Area Development Authority, a unit of MHADA, has written a letter to the housing authority's vice-president Gautam Chatterjee asking him to provide one flat each to both as they made India proud with their acting talent. "The acting talent of the two has made India proud. The children, who belong to underprivileged family, are special for us. They played equal role in getting the movie the Oscars. In a move to honour them, Amarjeet Singh has written a letter to MHADA officials to grant them houses," Krishna Hegde, a member of MHADA board told. Rubina and Azharuddin are now living in Garibnagar in suburban Bandra. "Mumbai Congress president Kripashankar Singh will also meet Chief Minister Ashok Chavan in the evening to discuss about providing flats to the children," Hegde added.

Sure they have their own interpretations and take on how to play the character but the writer does not need to tailor-make a character to suit the actor’s image. Director Priyadarshan has joined the bandwagon in slamming Danny Boyle's underdog saga 'Slumdog Millionaire' and has called the film a 'cheap trashy mediocre version' of erstwhile Bollywood hits. ' 'Slumdog Millionaire' is nothing but a cheap trashy mediocre version of those commercial films about estranged brothers and childhood sweethearts that Salim-Javed used to write so brilliantly in the 1970s. And please quote me clearly on this. If the Golden Globe and Oscars committees have chosen to honour this trashy film it just shows their ignorance of world cinema,' Priyadarshan told IANS. Priyadarshan, whose much-acclaimed film on the silk weavers of Kanjeevaram was shown alongside Boyle's film at the Toronto Film Festival last year, feels Indians are exercising prideful property rights over a film that denigrates Mumbai. Ghajini collection in trouble

A petition by the producer of the Tamil version of Ghajini, calling for the collection details of the Hindi Ghajini came up for hearing at the High Court on 6th January. It may be recalled that producer Salem Chandrasekar filed a petition seeking a stay on the film, as he had the rights of the film with him. The local court issued a stay order on the release of Ghajini but this was conditionally vacated by the High Court of Madras on appeal after the defendant deposited Rs. 5 crores.Hearing the petition, the Division Bench comprising Justice Dhanapalan and Sathyanarayana called the defendants, Geetha Arts to submit the collection report. The defendants pleaded that the film is being screened in several parts of the country and hence it would take time to get the report. The judges ordered Geetha Arts to submit in writing the reasons for the delay and the time needed to submit the report. The case is posted for hearing on January 27th.

Woman from France found dead in Goa

A French woman was found dead at the helipad in Vagator on Sunday morning. Though investigations are still on police suspect it could be a case of grug overdose.
Anjuna police sources said that the woman, in her early thirties, and her male companion were travelling in a van with kitchen, room and washroom and had stopped at the helipad to relax. Though, the police ascertained their nationality through the vehicle, they were unable to get further details as the woman's passport was not found. "While the woman was found dead, the man, who has a slight disability was fine, but fell unconscious on realizing that the woman had died. He has been admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital," said a police official. "The French woman's body has been kept at the GMC morgue for post-mortem," the official said.

Chief secretary P Ramakanth Reddy has written a letter to the Consulate-General of India, Chicago, and the Embassy of India, Washington, offering to ferry the dead bodies to their home town. "The government will put efforts to bring the bodies as early as possible to the city," a GAD source told TOI. The bodies of Soumya and her cousin Vikram Reddy might be flown to the city in the next three weeks after completion of probe. Meanwhile, the Tummala family continues to be in the dark with little information emerging on the circumstances that led to the killings, as the St Louis County police searched for the gun at the Spanish Lake County Park where the two cousins were shot dead over the weekend. The shattered family in Padmaraonagar was clueless till Wednesday night with barely any information furnished to them by the US federal authorities and the Indian Consulate-General officials in Chicago, though the St Louis County medical examiner's office had completed the autopsies. It refused to divulge the post-mortem results, it is learnt. "At this time we do not have a suspect in custody and that there is no third party," Gary Berra of St Louis County police department said, stressing that the authorities continue to treat the killings as a murder-suicide only. Five blasts ripped through different parts of the National Capital on Saturday evening between 6:15 PM and 7 PM. Unconfirmed reports say the casualty figure may be higher.The blasts took place in the Gaffar Market area of Karol Bagh, two blasts in Connaught Place, and another in Greater Kailash. The impact of the blasts in Karol Bagh could be gauged by the fact that an auto was thrown up and got caught in the electrical wires. According to Delhi Police, two persons were detained from Connaught Place area soon after the blasts. Police said a boy named Rahul had claimed to have seen the terrorists. Rahul informed the police that terrorists were travelling in an auto-rickshaw. He also said that the terrorists were clad in black kurta-pyjama. Security was tightened across the National Capital, with police personnel fanning out in large numbers to railway and Metro stations, hospitals, bus terminals and airport. Gun-toting security personnel were deployed at sensitive points after explosions in a span of 45 minutes ripped through the city. Barricades were put up at several places to regulate traffic. There was chaos on the roads as people who were outside rushed back home following the blasts. Security was stepped up at railway and Metro stations, inter-state bus terminals, airport, cinema halls, shopping malls and other sensitive points. Several major city markets, including the popular Sarojini Nagar Market which was targeted in the previous Diwali-eve blasts in 2006, were shut down and evacuated. More than 25 percent students of a large university are addicted to tanning, a new study has found. All the students having symptoms of tanning dependence also suffer symptoms similar to alcohol and drug-addicted individuals.
The study by researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center also found those with a tanning dependence tend to be more likely to be thin and smoke cigarettes than others.
For the study, the researchers set out to understand what proportion of college students report problems with tanning dependence and whether there are shared behaviours among those considered to be tanning dependent and those with other forms of addiction.
"Adolescents and young adults tend to put themselves at risk for later skin cancer by exposing themselves to high levels of ultraviolet radiation, so by understanding some possible reasons why, we hope to develop innovative interventions to help prevent these risky behaviors," explained an associate member at Fox Chase Cancer Center, Carolyn Heckman, Ph.D.
They recruited 400 students and other volunteers at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia during the spring semester of 2006. Participants took part in an online survey utilizing items adapted from questionnaires used to measure traditional substance abuse and dependence.
The measures assess tolerance to tanning (the need to tan increasingly frequently), withdrawal from tanning (discomfort when not having tanned recently), and difficulty controlling the behaviour despite awareness of its negative impact such as freckles, wrinkles, pre-cancerous lesions, etc.
The survey included questions such as "Do you think you need to spend more and more time in the sun to maintain your perfect tan?” "Do you continue tanning so your tan will not fade?" and "Does this your belief that tanning can cause skin cancer keep you from spending time in the sun or going to tanning beds?".
Participants were queried about their level of intentional and incidental sun exposure, tanning booth use, and chemical sunless tanner use.
The survey also asked about health-related behaviors such as body mass index, smoking, and exercise."The media and lay public may know tanning dependence as ''tanorexia,'' alluding to similarities to both substance addictions and body image disorders like anorexia.
There is some evidence that UV tanning dependence may have biological underpinnings like other addictions such as the production of endorphins as in the ''runner''s high," said Heckman.
Heckman added: "We were surprised to find that 27 percent of those we surveyed were classified as tanning dependent. The finding that almost 40 percent of those surveyed had used tanning booths and that the mean age when tanning booths were first used was 17 is also alarming.
"It was revealed that sun tanning was more closely related to tanning dependence than indoor tanning, though use of indoor tanning during warm weather also signalled tanning dependence.Finally, the researchers said that those addicted to tanning were more likely to be thin and smoke cigarettes than others, suggesting meaningful avenues for further research into possible links among risky behaviours

"Tata Motors has been constrained to suspend the construction and commissioning work at the Nano plant in Singur in view of continued confrontation and agitation at the site," it said. The decision has been taken in order to ensure the safety of its employees and contract labour who have continued to violently obstructed from reporting to work, it added. A total investment of Rs 1,500 crore has been envisaged for the project that stipulated rolling out Rs one lakh car by October. It, however, has been mired into controversy right from its inception with Mamata Banerjee demanding return of 400 acres out of a total 1000 acres land leased out to Tatas by the state government. Ratan Tata had last month warned that the project would be shifted out of the state in case violence persisted at the Singur plant. The decision to look for alternate options was taken at a management committee comprising company Managing Director Ravi Kant, CFO C Ramakrishnan and Nano project head Girish Wagh, besides group Chairman Ratan Tata, sources added. The company said the decision has been taken to ensure the safety of its employees and contract labour who have continued to violently obstructed from reporting to work. The project's auto ancillary partners were also constrained to suspend the work in line with Tata Motors' decision, it added. The plant was shut for the fifth day on Tuesday as the management did not consider the atmosphere conducive for normal work with the Trinamool Congress dharna entering its 10th consecutive day. "Our workers will not be reporting for work today," a Tata Motors official said earlier in the day. The company's threat to withdraw from Singur comes at a time even when hectic parleys were to end the impasse with state Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi suggesting to find a neutral mediator. Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's much hyped film Singh is Kinng has raked in Rs 18 Crore across India and managed the biggest-ever opening in North America, the UK and the Middle East in the first two days of its release, the production unit claimed.The film's opening on August 8 fetched a net collection of Rs 8 crore and the second day screening earned Rs 10 crore, breaking previous records in the past 10 years, spokesperson for the production house said in a statement.The film received the biggest-ever opening not only in the UK and Middle East but also in North America where Om Shanti Om and Jodhaa Akbar have been the top grossers.Singh is King, however, beat both the films' opening on Friday with a record haul of $232,000 as opposed to $227,000 by Om Shaanti Om and $209,000 by Jodhaa Akbar.In the UK, the film pocketed 337,000 Pounds, while in UAE it earned 1.4 million United Arab Emirates Dirham, the statement said.Filmed on Australia's Gold Coast, Singh is Kinng sees Akshay Kumar, champion the role of 'Happy Singh' in a high-octane action comedy which also heralds the first ever collaboration of its kind where Akshay comes together with international hip hop superstar, Snoop Dogg, to create the title track and music video for the film.

Talking exclusively to The Sun, Jade broke down admitting: "I am fighting for my life."
She is now interested in her children's future. She is preparing herself to tell Bobbie, 5, and Freddie, 3, of her health.
"Bizarrely, I want to take the boys to a third world country to make them appreciate what they have. I'd like them to see how lucky they are to have so much compared to some. I'm so desperate to see them but I know I won't be able to stop the tears flowing and they are both sensitive little boys and it will only distress them."
She wants to battle the disease if that's the last thing she does: "At the end of the day I am going to bloody beat this thing because I've got two amazing kids to live for. And there's no way I'm gonna let them down."
Jade cancelled her India visit, where she was to appear on actress Shilpa Shetty's Big Boss show, after she was told she had cancer. A large tumour in her womb may have spread to her blood stream - putting major organs such as her liver and kidneys at risk. She will undergo a hysterectomy next week.
She recalled the moment in Mumbai when she received a telephone from her doctor. "The blood drained from me as my doctor said, 'We have looked again at your biopsy, and there are severe abnormalities. You need to fly home immediately'.
“I looked at the phone in disbelief as he said, 'You have cancer, Jade, it's real and it's serious'. I collapsed to the floor, thinking, 'My boys. Oh my God, I'm going to die'."
Her consultant, Dr. Ann Coxon, said: "She has serious second stage cancer and needs surgery as soon as possible. The cancer is in an advanced stage and was diagnosed in the nick of time. The bottom line is, if she'd stayed in India for the next three months, she wouldn't be here."
Jade shockingly revealed that four previous tests to detect cervical cancer revealed pre-cancerous cells in her womb - but she was given the all-clear. "Always the medics told me there was nothing to worry about. I feared I was becoming a hypochondriac."
But then three weeks ago Jade collapsed at home. Paramedics rushed the star to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Essex, where she stayed almost a week.
Jade recalled: "The doctors still insisted they couldn't find anything wrong with me, so I insisted on an ultrasound scan. But nothing showed up. I just got on with my life. I thought about cancelling the Big Brother India trip. But they had offered me £100,000, which will go towards bringing up my kids. People think I'm a multi-millionaire from telly, which couldn't be further from the truth."

Niketa Mehta’s abortion case

Barely eight days after the Bombay High Court gave its ruling on an appeal that had the country divided into two sides, Niketa Mehta, who sought to abort her 25-week-old-foetus has suffered a miscarriage. According to her husband Haresh Mehta, Niketa suffered a miscarriage on August 12. 27 weeks pregnant Niketa was rushed to a hospital in suburban Mumbai after complaining of severe pain on Tuesday night. Confirming that his wife Niketa had a miscarriage on Tuesday, Haresh Mehta said, "If not the court, at least god was on our side." Niketa's husband has blamed intense media pressure for his wife's high blood pressure and increased stress level which led to the miscarriage. Niketa's appeal caught the nation's imagination after she sought to terminate her 25-week-old foetus, after medical reports that her child would be born with a complete congenital heart blockage and malpositioned arteries. The report had claimed that the child would have required a pacemaker soon after birth. The couple had approached the court as the Pregnancy Act of 71 prevented termination of pregnancy after 20 weeks. On August 4, the court turned down Mehtas plea. The court had also said that medical evidence did not suggest that the foetus needed to be aborted.

The government on Thursday approved the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations, heaping civil and defence staff with a salary hike bonanza on the eve of the country's 61st Independence Day.According to Information and Broadcast Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi, the revised pay scales will take effect from January 1, 2006. He added that arrears will be paid in two installments, 40 per cent this fiscal and 60 per cent in the next financial year. Approving the recommendations with slight modification, Dasmunsi said that the new system includes four pay bands and the mid-level officers have been placed in the highest pay band. The minimum entry level pay has been raised to Rs 7,000 from Rs 6,660 per month recommended by the Commission. The minister also added that special allowances will be provided to Army commandoes and their Naval and Air Force equivalents. The Sixth Pay Commission, headed by Justice B N Srikrishna, had in March submitted its report to the government, recommending an average 28 per cent hike for central government staff and defence personnel. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday held a meeting with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister A K Antony and Finance Minister P Chidambaram to discuss the pay commission report and the recommendations of the empowered committee of Secretaries that went into it. The pay round comes roughly once a decade and the previous one in 1997 raised salaries for federal employees by nearly 40 per cent, prompting many state governments to follow suit and blowing the combined state and federal deficit to nearly 10 per cent of GDP.

The market started the day disappointed by the government's retail sales report, and a jump in oil prices further dampened the mood. Battipaglia, chief investment officer at Ryan Beck & Co. The Dow fell 109.51, or 0.94 percent, to 11,532.96 after falling more than 150 points earlier in the session and just under 140 points on Tuesday. The Standard & Poor's 500 index slipped 3.76, or 0.29 percent, to 1,285.83, while the Nasdaq composite index fell 1.99, or 0.08 percent, to 2,428.62. The Commerce Department said retail sales slipped 0.1 percent as rising prices helped offset the effect of economic stimulus payments to U.S. households. Excluding a big drop in sales of automobiles, retail sales rose 0.4 percent. But even on that basis it was the weakest showing in five months. Wall Street had expected sales to remain flat after a minor increase in June. The report followed a warning from department store bellwether Macy's Inc. that its full-year profits would fall short of expectations because of slower sales. The advance in oil prices also tinged investor sentiment. Light, sweet crude rose $2.99 to $116 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange after the government said U.S. crude supplies fell unexpectedly last week. Thatz it!

Reliance Industries Vornado to invest $500 mn in shopping mall JV

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries on Wednesday announced a 50-50 partnership with US-based real estate investment trust Vornado to collectively invest 500 million dollars in a shopping mall joint venture. Under the JV, RIL and Vornado Realty Trust would commit up to 250 million dollars each to acquire, develop and operate retail shopping centers across key cities in India. "The shopping centers will contain 500,000 to 1,000,000 or more square feet and typically be anchored by a hypermarket to be owned and operated by Reliance, Vornado said. RIL currently operates over 700 retail stores in multiple formats in India. Vornado has an aggregate investment in other India joint ventures of approximately USD 91 million and capital commitments to these ventures of an additional USD 92 million. RIL is India's largest public company with revenues in excess of USD 34 billion and a market capitalization of over USD 75 billion. Vornado Realty Trust is a fully-integrated equity real estate investment trust. It is one of the largest owners and managers of real estate in the United States with a portfolio of over 100 million square feet in its major platforms, primarily located in New York and Washington, DC metro areas. Vornado's other real estate investments include 32.8 per cent interest in Alexander's Inc, 32.7 per cent interest in Toys "R" Us and Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City.

The final shot from Abhinav Bindra's rifle may not have been heard outside the packed hall in the Beijing Shooting Range Complex on Monday morning. But its bang was loud enough to lift the spirit of a billion-plus Indians back home.

No individual gold has mattered so much to so many people in the history of Olympics. It was a medal for Abhinav; it was redemption for India. Never again will anyone be able to point a smug, sardonic finger and say: "No Indian is good enough to win an individual Olympic gold."
Hockey's eight gold medals notwithstanding, the last coming 28 years ago, this is the first time that an Indian has won an individual gold since modern Olympics started in 1896. There is no greater joy than listening to the sound of the national anthem on the world's biggest stage.

The global media looked bemused as grown-up Indians danced like little children, shedding tears of joy. How can they understand?

The joy was also spurred by the improbable nature of the triumph. The script of the men's 10m air rifle final might have been penned by Alfred Hitchcock himself. Bindra, who qualified for the final in the morning with the fourth-best score of 596, looked calm and assured when the call for the first shot came.

The first shot - 10.7. He started with a bang and that set the tone for the 10-shot final. He followed it up with a 10.3. After the third shot, a 10.4, he had moved from No. 3 to No. 2. Then, Bindra slowly ate into the lead of Finland's Henri Hakkinen and went ahead after the seventh shot with 10.6.

Hakkinen caught up with him after the ninth shot, and with one shot to go, the Indian and the Finn were tied at 689.7 points.

There was a hushed silence inside the hall. The suspense was unbearable. It's in such situations that champions show their mettle. And Bindra showed nerves of steel. He fired first, an amazing 10.8 for a total of 700.5. Home favourite and defending champion Zhu Qinan shot a 10.5 and Hakkinen simply withered under pressure, managing only 9.7. Bindra finally smiled, but barely.

He turned back and went up to hug his Swiss coach Gaby Buehlmann, with whom he trained for months in Germany, away from the intrusive home media. After the medals' ceremony, Bindra was mobbed by journalists, several of them from Finland and China.

"How does it feel Mr Bindra?" "Hard to describe it... it's the thrill of my life," he said, still looking calm as a monk. "The final shot was perfect. I just went for it. I was aggressive. It went my way. I'm lucky," he added in a matter-of-fact tone.

Will this not change his life? "My life will go on. I hope it changes the face of Olympic sports in the country," he said.

This is the fifth individual Olympic medal for India. Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav won the first, a bronze in wrestling at the Helsinki Games in 1952. After a long gap, Leander Paes won the tennis bronze in Atlanta Games in 1996. When Sherlyn Chopra came a visiting Delhi recently, to publicise her latest album, she took full advantage of the mauka to mouth some more shockingly raunchy statements.

And if that didn’t shock the journos and lensmen present, her outfit sure did.

Sherlyn took her time to put in an appearance.

But when she finally did, for one full moment, one could have heard a pin drop.

Jaws dropped, eyes popped out... and then the photogs began the mad scramble to get up close for a ‘nice’ shot (we got one too, see...).

If you’ve watched Memoirs of a Geisha , you’d know that Japan is made of paper! Not all of it. People are still made of blood, gore and all that, but every other wall, door or screen you see in the movie are paper! It seemed like a really cool idea, where in one shot, the director cleverly shows a silhouette of what’s cooking behind closed doors. But I’ll tell you where it all became a terrible idea for sure – I could HEAR them! Oh, the horror! On the way back home, I got thinking. Why did the noisy Japanese people in the movie freak me out? It’s nothing to do with them being Japanese! Some of my favourite people are Japanese (Honda Aibo, Hello Kitty, etc.). So does it have anything to do with the movie being noisy? No, that’s not true... I prayed. So what, then? As I walked to my woman (I say this in the most non-sexist way imaginable!), I decided to be more observant in my intimate moments. So here we are in the throes of passion... Back to the whole ‘noise’ thing, I concluded after extensive research over a period of months that we are a noisy couple, and though the less coherent one of the lot, I do contribute my fair share. And most importantly – I like her being vocal! So, why the earlier discomfort? To study this phenomenon, I decided to embark upon a study using the scientific method of injecting the topic into conversations with guys everywhere (The data yielded was best when the pints downed were in double-digits). Here’s the no-surprise result – all of them (as in us, fellow-manly men) agree that nothing compares to ‘YES’ many times over, though there were some who admitted to shhhhing their loved ones in life’s finer moments. Further research was conducted to determine the latter brigade of men. And the reason was simple really. Neighbours! Not just when you’re the noise, but also when you’re the neighbour, there’s trouble both ways. If you’re the noise, and the neighbours can hear you – you risk offending them for a number of reasons (they may not be getting any, they may envy your stamina, they might want to hear and not just watch the TV, you might be upsetting their pets or children etc.), and if you are the neighbour, you might be offended for the same reasons! So, here are the final results: We love it when you love it, so tell us, as loud as you want. Sometimes when we shhh you, just tell us you want the neighbours to know that we are studs! There are some among us who truly may not like getting it loud and the silver bullet for that is headphone! Not for you, for him. Tell him, it turns you on, and he won’t ever take ‘em off

`Singh is Kinng` collects Rs 8 crore on day one!

Anees Bazmee ‘Singh is Kinng’, released this Friday, is doing wonders at the Box Office. According to reports, the collections are amazing and totalled to Rs 8 crores on day one and the weekend collections are expected to be around Rs 28 to Rs 30 crores. Bollywood sighs with relief as Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Singh is Kinng’, is all set to do amazing business at the Box Office. Till date, SRK-Deepika starrer ‘Om Shanti Om’ has earned the highest first week collections of Rs 37 crores while the modest projections for the first week collections of ‘Singh is Kinng’ is put at Rs 45 crores. The film is on its way to make a new box office record! The story of the film goes like this - Lakhan Singh aka Lucky (Sonu Sood) is the 'king' of the Australian underworld. He functions with the help of his associates - Javed Jaffrey, Neha Dhupia, Manoj Pahwa, Yashpal Sharma, Kamal Chopra and Sudhanshu Pande. Far away, in Lucky's village in Punjab lives someone more notorious than him - Happy Singh (Akshay Kumar). The villagers are fed up of Happy, the good samaritan, because most of his good deeds turn into hilarious, and often disastrous situations. Out of desperation, they decide to send him to Australia to bring Lucky back to Punjab. The happy-go-lucky bumpkin, taking his mission a bit too seriously, embarks on his journey accompanied by his friend, Tony Singh (Om Puri). The high point of his journey is his chance meeting with Sonia (Katrina Kaif) with whom he falls in love. But when he reaches his destination, things take a turn and Happy lands up in a series of comic misadventures, leaving him penniless. An affectionate elderly lady (Kirron Kher) rescues him and also helps him meet Lucky. Happy saves Lucky's life by risking his own. Following the hilarious altercation, Lucky lands up in hospital paralysed, and Happy, unexpectedly, finds the tables turned on him when he is expected to assume the role of the new leader of the gang. The series of chaotic and comic misunderstandings eventually results in an accidental wedding! The film's USP is Akshay and Katrina Kaif, who teamed up in two of last year's biggest hits - "Namastey London" and "Welcome". Shot in Punjab, Australia and Egypt, the film's music is already doing well. American rapper Snoop Dogg features in the movie wearing a turban. Results of the study may be potentially useful for the five million recreational cyclists to alleviate perineal discomfort and maintain sexual health. Ninety bicycling policemen from five metropolitan regions in the US using traditional seats were evaluated prior to changing them and again six months after the switchover to noseless seats. Use of noseless seats resulted in a reduction in saddle contact pressure in the perineal region. There was a significant improvement in penile tactile sensation. The percentage of policemen who indicated they had not experienced genital numbness while cycling for the preceding six months rose from 27 percent to 82, using no-nose seats. Their use also resulted in significant increases in erectile function as assessed by the initial evaluation. But there were no significant changes noted in Rigiscan measures, a method used to record penile rigidity while the subject sleeps. With few exceptions, bicycle policemen were able to effectively use no-nose seats and 97 percent of men completing the study continued to use the no-nose saddle afterward. Steven Schrader of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in Cincinnati, co-author of the study, stated: "No-nose saddles are a useful intervention for bicycling policemen alleviating pressure to the groin and improving penis health.Different seat designs may require some re-learning of 'how to ride a bicycle', but the health benefits of having unrestricted vascular flow to and from the penis and less penile numbness is self-evident." Irwin Goldstein, director, Sexual Medicine, Alvarado Hospital, San Diego, wrote in an editorial that "for the first time, we have a prospective study of healthy policemen. Not only did their sensation improve, their erectile function also improved. "Changing saddles changed physiology. This is a landmark study for our field that is important for future riders, and modification of lifestyle showing improvement without any active treatment."

One of the most perplexing mysteries in the war on terror returned centerstage on Monday with the announcement by US authorities of the arrest in Kabul of a Pakistani-American woman scientist whose sudden disappearance in 2003 caused many to think she was in American or Pakistani custody and underscored the disturbingly clandestine nature of the war. Aafia Siddiqui, an MIT alumna with a doctorate in neurosciences, and a mother of three children, vanished while on a visit to Karachi nearly five years ago. She was believed to have been taken into custody by Pakistani and/or US intelligence agencies because of her alleged connections to suspected terrorists and some questionable financial transactions. So strong was the belief that she was one of the victims of the covert and spooky US-Pakistani collaboration that her family and friends petitioned courts for her release. There was concern and outrage in the Boston area, where she had long standing academic connections going back to her sophomore years at MIT in 1992. Her work ranged from a paper on "Islamization in Pakistan and its Effects on Women," to articles on the early systems in the Internet to, later, research in Neurosciences at Brandeis University. More recently, there were reports that she was being held in solitary confinement at the Bagram Theater Internment Facility in Afghanistan, where fellow captives were said to have nicknamed her Prisoner No.650 and the "Gray Lady of Bagram." One report said she had lost her sanity and cried all the time. There was no information about her children, two of whom were toddlers when she disappeared and the youngest was only six months old. But on Monday, the FBI announced that Siddique, now 36, was captured in Afghanistan as recently as July 17. The Bureau's version: On July 17, 2008, officers of the Ghazni Province Afghanistan National Police ("ANP") observed Siddiqui outside the Ghazni governor's compound. ANP officers questioned Siddiqui, regarded her as suspicious, and searched her handbag. In it, they found numerous documents describing the creation of explosives, as well as excerpts from the Anarchist's Arsenal. Siddiqui's papers included descriptions of various landmarks in the United States, including in New York City. Siddiqui was also in possession of substances that were sealed in bottles and glass jars, the FBI said. According to the Bureau, on July 18, 2008, a party of United States personnel, including two FBI special agents, a United States Army Warrant Officer, a United States Army Captain, and United States military interpreters, arrived at the Afghan facility where Siddiqui was being held. The personnel entered a second floor meeting room -- unaware that Siddiqui was being held there, unsecured, behind a curtain. The Warrant Officer took a seat and placed his United States Army M-4 rifle on the floor next to the curtain. Shortly after the meeting began, the Captain heard a woman yell from the curtain and, when he turned, saw Siddiqui holding the Warrant Officer's rifle and pointing it directly at the Captain. Siddiqui said, "May the blood of be directly on your ." The interpreter seated closest to Siddiqui lunged at her and pushed the rifle away as Siddiqui pulled the trigger. Siddiqui fired at least two shots but no one was hit. The Warrant Officer returned fire with a 9 mm service pistol and fired approximately two rounds at Siddiqui's torso, hitting her at least once. Despite being shot, Siddiqui struggled with the officers when they tried to subdue her; she struck and kicked them while shouting in English that she wanted to kill Americans. The FBI said Siddiqui had been brought to New York on Monday evening and will be presented on Tuesday before a Judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on charges related to her attempted murder and assault of United States officers and employees in Afghanistan. No word about terrorism-related charges -- or about her three little children who disappeared along with her. But the FBI version has been strongly contested by Siddiqui's family in Pakistan, which insists she has been in custody all along. "After five years of detention, Aafia was suddenly 'discovered' in Afghanistan? I am not that much of a believer in coincidence," her sister, Fauzia Siddiqui told the media in Karachi. Independent rights group The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan in a statement also termed the US claims as lies. "To say that she had been taken into custody only on July 17, 2008 is a blatant lie," it said. "The insinuation, that she had been hiding herself since 2003, is a travesty of truth." Meanwhile, the new civilian government in Pakistan has demanded consular access to Aafia Siddiqui, amid suggestions that the previous military dictatorship actively collaborated with the US in keeping her in custody.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday won a vote of confidence in the Lok Sabha with a comfortable margin belying predictions of a close contest on a day marred by unseemly scenes over allegations of bribery. The prime minister's motion, asking the House express its confidence in the Council of Ministers, was carried thorough with 275 votes in favour and 256 against it.There were 10 abstentions as per the final tally. The results were announced after nearly an hour, after officials corrected the initial figures which showed 253 votes in favour of the motion 232 against and 2 abstentions in a total vote of 487. In the din caused by BJP members demanding prime minister's resignation and shouting down his speech, Singh laid his reply to the debate on the table of the House. As opposition members pressed for a division, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee ordered voting by electronic voting machine. Even before the final result was announced ruling alliance members went to the prime minister and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to greet them on the victory in the confidence motion the first in over four years of this government. The prime minister had sought the confidence of the house after the Left parties, which provided outside support since May 2004, withdrew it on the issue of government operationalising the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal by approaching the IAEA. The two-day debate on the motion was often acrimonious but it took an entirely different turn after BJP members shocked the House by producing bundles of currency notes alleging bribes by the Samajwadi Party to them to abstain from voting. Four BJP members including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee were permitted to vote from the inner lobby of the house through slips on account of their ill-health.

``The Dark Knight'' lit up cash registers during its midnight U.S. debut, stealing away with a record $18.5 million from 3,040 theaters, distributor Warner Bros. said Friday.
That bested the 2005 performance of ``Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith,'' which took in $16.9 million during its midnight debut in 2,915 venues.
``The Dark Knight'' figure did not include any of its 3 a.m. or 6 a.m. showings.
And while Batman only strikes at night, all indications are that ``The Dark Knight'' will keep landing blows: Advance ticket sales were booming.
The early numbers mean ``The Dark Knight'' will likely join the ranks of 10 other films that debuted on non-holiday weekends and cleared more than $100 million from Friday to Sunday, said Paul Dergarabedian, president of tracking firm Media By Numbers LLC.
`There is an unbelievable demand for this movie,'' he said. ``The Heath Ledger factor is a major part of this. Beyond that, the movie is so good, it's worthy of all these accolades.''
The movie directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale as Batman cost $185 million to make, excluding money spent marketing, said Dan Fellman, Warner's head of distribution.

When it comes to determining whether a person is sexy or not, most people rely upon their sight. Now, according to a new study, a person’s voice is more than enough to pass a judgment on their attractiveness. The study, led by Susan Hughes, an evolutionary psychologist from Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania, suggests that people with voices deemed sexy and attractive tend to have greater body symmetry upon close inspection. "The sound of a person''s voice reveals a considerable amount of biological information," LiveScience quoted Hughes, as saying. "It can reflect the mate value of a person,” she added. The study cautions that an attractive voice does not necessarily indicate that this person has an attractive face. A symmetric body is genetically sound, scientists say, and in evolutionary terms, in the wild, it can be an important factor when selecting a mate. However, sometimes changes during prenatal development can slightly skew this balance. For instance, the length ratio between index and ring fingers, known as the digit ratio, is fixed by the first trimester, a time that corresponds with vocal cord and larynx development. If the hormone surge that affects vocal development also affects finger growth, there should be a connection between an individual''s voice and digit ratio. Hughes could not demonstrate a connection between voice attractiveness and digit ratio in her previous work, possibly due to vocal changes that occur during puberty. So in the new study, about 100 individuals listened to previously recorded voices and independently rated them on nine traits important during mate selection: approachability, dominance, healthiness, honesty, intelligence, likelihood to get dates, maturity, sexiness and warmth. Study participants generally agreed on what made a voice attractive. But when Hughes used a spectrogram to analyze these voice ratings according to different acoustic properties such as pitch, intensity, jitter and shimmer, she could not find a common feature that made these voices seem attractive. This indicates our perceptual system may be more advanced than expected, Hughes said. The study is published in the June 2008 edition of the Journal of Nonverbal Behavior.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has allegedly fired twenty employees for providing fake certificates of previous employment by bogus companies.
It seems that TCS wants to set an example to fraudsters and they feel the best way to do this is to get stricter about the people they employ.
“Yes, the number is around 20, that's the number we have found at this point of time where there have been different kind of things that are not matching with what they have stated in their resume with what they actually have,” says HR Head, Ajoyendra Mukherjee.
He adds, “Maybe it's the experience, maybe it's the reference, maybe it's the certificates that they've given and we're taking very strict action against that.”
CNBC-TV18 learns that certificates from bogus companies are quite rampant. Not only are such fake certificates available for a meagre Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000, these bogus companies even have people who answer calls and verify information during background checks.
IT companies are now focusing on a more thorough background screening, including field checks on companies that aren't in their database.

A meeting of Samajwadi Party MPs held here on Friday ahead of the crucial July 22 trust vote saw 16 of the 39 Lok Sabha members turning up. The meeting, addressed by party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and General Secretary Amar Singh, has assumed importance as the SP has become a crucial ally of the Congress-led coalition at the Centre ahead of the confidence motion. While MPs Ateeq Ahmed and Afzal Ansari are in jail, Raj Babbar and Beni Prasad Verma have been suspended from the party. Munawwar Hasan is a known rebel, who has announced that he would vote against the motion. Same is the case with Rajnarain Budholiya, MP from Hamiripur, and Jai Prakash, who represents Mohanlalganj. Kirti Vardhan Singh, Mohan Singh and Revati Raman Singh, who had not attended the last Parliamentary Party meeting of SP, were present at the two days deliberation. Meanwhile, the party has issued a three-line whip asking its members to be present in the Lok Sabha on July 21 and 22 and vote in favour of the confidence motion.
